Shwap - Circular Fashion

Shwap, now known as Owni, is a circular fashion brand that brings a whole new spin on upcycling clothing.

Summary

Kalkidan Legesse is a successful business owner, having already established clothing store Sancho's in Exeter. Her next aspiration is to launch a 'circular fashion' website that allows customers and brands to resell clothing indefinitely, thus reducing the environmental impact of fast fashion. This deployment was the first web and mobile iterations of her aspiration. Shwap (now Owni) is born.

Brief

The primary objective of this brief was to produce prototypes for the web and mobile variations of an ecommerce website, based on requirements which formed the following key user journeys:

  • User Authentication

  • Onboarding

  • Marketplace & Buying an Item

  • Digital Warbrobe / Sell an Item

  • My Account

  • Admin Portal

My role

Principal UX consultant for Shwap via Methods Digital. Deployed to produce the all user journeys of a customer of Shwap, accessing the site on a desktop or mobile. The owner of the company was the key stakeholder and I reported directly to her. One developer worked on this accelerated proof of concept with me.

Key Deliverables

Full end-to-end journeys created in both a

  • Desktop prototype

  • Mobile prototype

Discovery

  • Initial briefing sessions with the client to understand the scope of work.

  • Bi-weekly, post-day-job meetings with client and developer to check on progress til date and what the next few days would consist of.

  • Initial branding provided by the client which was used as the moodboard for my initial designs.

  • Figured out the priority user journeys to tackle first.

Development

  • Begun with mobile-first approach in my head even though the request was to produce and demo the desktop version first, as the ultimate aim was to have the design to be responsive.

  • Ensuring that the designs were built with an 'atomic' mindset. This was to pre-empt the changes in client's style guide requirements, as the branding and colour scheme was eventually provided by an agency.

  • Drip-fed further user journey requirements at each meeting with the client.

Delivery

  • Regular demonstration of progress during client meetings, allowing for feedback to be taken and implemented on the next iteration.

  • Desktop version implemented first, with every user journey covered and connected.

  • Once the full coverage was confirmed and the client happy, the mobile version of the prototype was worked on and delivered in a similar fashion.

Result

  • Delivery of both veresions of the prototype as per the requirements set out in the client brief(s).

  • Designs taken forward and implemented into the live (renamed) site - https://www.owni.app/
